In SA, 20.9% of children and young people under 15 years lived in households experiencing housing stress (households that spend more than 30% of their income on housing costs) in SA in 2016 (23.7% in 2011).

Homelessness
The rate of children and young people under 19 years experiencing homelessness in SA was 57.0 per 10,000 population in 2021 (38.7 per 10,000 population in 2016).
Nationally, the rate was 49.9 per 10,000 in 2021.
